A. Alene Hawbaker, 98 of Mt. Pleasant and former resident of Charles City, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center in New London.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Pat Youngquist officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of the service at the church on Friday. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Sunnyside Memorial Gardens in Charles City.
Memorials may be directed to the New London Nursing and Rehab Center or to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
Alene was born on December 2, 1907, in Dallas County, Iowa the daughter of Charles U. & Alice Mae Ross Clayton. She was united in marriage to Floyd Hawbaker on October 27, 1927 in Dallas County. She helped her husband on the farm in Dallas County until they moved to Charles City where she worked for the Oliver Corporation during WW II. She later was a meat cutter at the Trowbridges Super Market in Charles City. She owned and operated the Charles City Nursing Home for a number of years, owned and operated the Maid Rite Café. After she retired she moved to Mt. Pleasant to make her home. She was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by her children: Joanne Thornton and her husband Larry of Mt. Pleasant, Gary Hawbaker and his wife Sandra of Boise, Idaho, Pamela Rausch and her husband Thomas of Newton, Iowa, Diana Hawbaker of Wellington, Florida. 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son Clayton Jay, three sisters and three brothers.
