Almeta Simkin Obituary


Almeta L. Simkin 96 of Salem passed away on Monday, March 26, 2007 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 1:30 at the Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Harold Dorsey officiating. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, April 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. there will be no family visitation at the Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home. A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home.

Almeta was born on September 27, 1910 at Basco, Illinois the daughter of Walter Thomas & Ethel Caroline Wiedmeyer Ensminger. She was a graduate of the Salem High School class of 1929. She was united in marriage to William W. Simkin on November 18, 1936 in Quincy, Illinois. She was an active member of the Salem Congregational Church; she was a 67 year member of the Bethlehem Chapter of the Eastern Star, RSV program and had served on the board of the Crew Public Library in Salem for 43 years.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra Mellott of Salem, two sisters: Thelma Foss of Salem and Esther Agee of Ottumwa, and her daughter-in-law Shirley Simkin of Tucson, AZ.
5 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son William F. two brothers, Otis and Otto Ensminger, an infant sister and her son-in-law Paul Mellott.
