Amber Dawn Soots 21 of Rock Island passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2009, after a long illness at the Trinity Regional Health Systems in Rock Island.
Funeral services will be on Friday, November 13, 2009, at 1:30 from the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Rock Island Nursing and Rehab or to The National Brian Injury Association.
Amber was born on May 29, 1988, in Ottumwa, Iowa the daughter of Rachel Albertson and Pat Soots. Amber was a senior at Ottumwa High School when she became ill, and she was in the top ten percent of her class, and inspite of her illness graduated. In the four years since her illness she has touched the lives of many people. Amber kept her sense of humor and joyous personality thru it all. Amber had courage and strength beyond her years. She enjoyed poetry, drama and Johnny Depp, spending time with friends and family.
Amber is survived by her mother Rachel Thomas and Jeff Hunt of Mt. Pleasant, her sister Audrey Soots of Mt. Pleasant, her biological father Pat Soots of Ottumwa, Greg Thomas of Mt. Pleasant. Grandparents: Janice Melling, Dave and Kate Soots, Earl and Nora Young and Sue and Andy Covert all of Ottumwa. Step-siblings: Melissa (Mark) Lingle, Melinda (Clint) Thomas of Independence, MO. Jeffrey Hunt of Iowa City. Her aunts: Cassandra (Teresa) Young-Gray of Ottumwa, Lacey Albertson of Ottumwa, Andrea Covert, Tammy Stewart, Tina Simmons and Teresa Price. Her uncles: Tim Soots and Doug Covert. Several nieces and nephews, and her family at the Rock Island Nursing and Rehab and Trinity Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather: Steve Albertson.
