Anita Hill Obituary

Anita (Andresen) Hill, 84, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

According to her wishes, her body has been cremated.  Family and friends may sign the register and pay their respects on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.  Memorials may be directed to The National Kidney Foundation and Breast Cancer Research Foundation in her memory.

Anita (Andresen) Hill was born on June 29, 1939, on the island of Nordstrand, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Bernhard and Kate Andresen.  Anita, her parents and two other siblings came by ship to America in 1951, where she became a U.S. citizen.  Anita was 12 years old at the time.  She would finish her education in Mt. Pleasant, graduating with the MPHS class of 1958.

On December 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Leo Wayne Hill at the Congregational Universalist Church in Mt. Pleasant.  They were married just over 52 years.  In 1961, they were joined by a son, Timothy Wayne.  They completed their family in 1965, with a daughter, Annette Yvonne.

Anita’s passion was her family; both at home and extended, getting together often for visits, meals, and homemade ice cream.  She poured her heart into her children, making sure they had what they needed, and knew they were loved.  She was a selfless homemaker, taking pride in a clean and happy home.  But it did not end there.  She worked tirelessly beside her husband on the family farm tending to crops and livestock.

After her children were older, she worked with Leo in his painting business, including hanging wall paper, something she did for many years.  After retiring from that business, she worked as an office assistant in her daughter’s medical practice in Mt. Pleasant.  But she was not done, as she would volunteer at the Mt. Pleasant Christian School.  Anita finally retired in 2011.  Anita would deal with several health issues over the years.  She would battle and defeat breast cancer four times.  But it was kidney disease that would take its toll, ultimately leading to her final days in early 2024.

She lives on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were all influenced by her kindness and love.  She also left the family with a personal recipe for pancakes and sugar cookies that will be enjoyed now and for generations to come.

She is survived by one sister, Ingrid (John) McDowell, a son, Timothy (Tina) Hill, a daughter, Annette (Larry) Oetken, granddaughter, Amber Keagle, granddaughter, Amy Hill, grandson, Jason Hill, grandson, Jared (Tiffany) Hill, grandson, Hunter Noble, step-granddaughter, Savannah Jolowski, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members in both the United States and Germany.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, her husband and sisters, Elke (Ronnie) Hart and Edith (Dennis) Hill Ford.
