Berniece Chrissinger Obituary

Berniece Estelene Chrissinger 87 of Mt. Pleasant and former Bloomfield resident passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at her home in Mt. Pleasant.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. Friends may sign the register on Tuesday July 15, 2008, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Memorials have been established to a group that provides support for Autistic Children.

Berniece was born on May 8, 1920 in Lancaster, Missouri to Joseph Harvey & Callie Cecil Zaerr Norman, and she was raised in Davis County. On May 20, 1938 she was united in marriage to Arthur V. Hining. They made their home in rural Davis County, Des. Moines, Albia, and Bloomfield, until his death in 1955. On September 12, 1958 she was united in marriage to Allan W. Chrissinger. "Mom would proudly add at the Little Brown Church." Their home was in Bloomfield until they moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1963. After Allan's death in 1997, she continued to live in Mt. Pleasant until her death on April 1, 2008. Berniece was a member of the Bloomfield Rebekak Lodge #1 since 1950. She enjoyed gardening, especially her roses until health issues prevented it. She was an avid cake decorator and taught many women the art. She loved bowling and bowled in Bloomfield and in Mt. Pleasant. For many years she sold her hand made jewelry and other hand crafted articles at Midwest Old Threshers and as well as other craft shows.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Jean and her husband Ralph Leasure of Ottumwa and her son Arthur LaVern Hining and his wife Janice of Iowa City. Her grand-daughter Jessica Hining-Santiago of Bayamon PR, two great-grandchildren: Daniel and Juliana, her sister Alberta Weaver and her husband LaRue of Algona and many nieces and nephews.

Berniece was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one brother Marvin, two sisters Emogene Nelson and Cleola Brumbaugh, her grandson Arthur V. Hining in 1989 and two nephews Rippy Brumbaugh and Jerry Lee Norman.
