Betty Brown Obituary
Betty J. Brown 87 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with Father Joseph Phung and Pastor David Plooster officiating. The family will receive friends from 1p.m. until time of service on Saturday at the Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Betty was born on August 18, 1923, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa the daughter of Genhard C. & Maude Mae Johnson Menkens. She was united in marriage to Ivan C. Brown on August 24, 1941 at her parents' home. She and her husband farmed at West Chester, Iowa retiring from farming they moved to Mt. Pleasant where they worked at the County Home, and then she went to work for Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant for many years til she retired to care for her husband before his death. Betty was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant where she had been very active for many years.
Betty is survived by her son Gilbert and his wife Margaret Brown of Adair, two grand-daughters, Susan Schafer and Sheryl Richter and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son Robert.
