Charles Smith Obituary

Charles E. Smith 83 of Montrose and former Mt. Pleasant resident passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Dylan Does officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Union Cemetery at Memphis Missouri. A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home.

Charles was born on December 7, 1924, in Scotland County, Missouri the son of Joseph & Marie Spencer Smith. He was united in marriage to Flossie L. Lane on December 29, 1945, in Memphis Missouri. He had worked at the Iowa Ammunition Plant in Middletown. He was a member of the Grace Community Friends Church and the C.B. Club both of Mt. Pleasant. Charles enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family.

Charles is survived by his daughters: Arlean Lucas and her husband Steve of Warsaw, IL, and Roberta Jackson of Keokuk, Iowa. Ten grandchildren, Arlene Rockhold, Tina Nichols, Tony White, Gary White, Stephen Lucas Jr., Mike Lucas, Samantha Lucas, Peggy Nichols, Jeremy Nichols and Mike Nichols. Sixteen great grandchildren. One brother Robert Smith of Warsaw, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Jimmy Dean and one great grandson Nathan.
