Charles Smithburg Obituary
Charles R. Smithburg 63 of Waterloo and former resident of Salem passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Hank Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Monday, September 1st at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30. A memorial has been established in his memory.
Charles was born on September 5, 1944 in Fairfield, Iowa the son of Wilbur W. & Virginia A Conner Smithburg. He was united in marriage to Carol Kephart on April 30, 1968, they later divorced. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad until his health failed, he was an avid outs doors man. He served his country in the Marines during Vietnam.
He is survived by his children: Angela Osier of Salem, John Smithburg of Mt. Pleasant and Robert Kephart of Donnellson. 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild. One brother: Ronald Smithburg of Salem and four sisters: Marie Mendenhall of Mt. Pleasant, Margaret Wilson of Deltona, Florida, Debbie Musick of Leon, Iowa and Christy Stringfellow of Keokuk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one brother Fred.
