Darlene Gerleman Obituary

Darlene P. Gerleman 84, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Lockridge passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012, at Arbor Court Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 7, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Joseph Phung officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where a Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. followed by family receiving friends until 7 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Lockridge First Responders, Hospice of Central Iowa and to the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Darlene was born on September 4, 1927, in Cresco, Iowa the daughter of Earl L. & Dora M. Ernst Stevens. She attended Cresco Schools and attended Cosmetology School. She was united in marriage to Edwin A. Gerleman on October 15, 1949, in Cresco; he preceded her in death on April 2, 2006. Darlene had a paper route, was a beautician for many years and retired from Metromail in 1987. She was the bookkeeper for her husband's construction company. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, gardening, flowers, wildlife and search word puzzles.

Darlene is survived by her children: three sons: James (Myrna), Thomas (Kim), and Ronald (Krista), all of Lockridge, four daughters: Ann Johnson (Jerry), of Nixa, Missouri, Kathleen Kessel (John), of Fairfield, Sandra Spees (Steve), of Birmingham and Barbara Neff (Larry) of Lockridge. Thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; her brother: Earl Stevens of West Bend, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son: Robert and her sister: Ione.
