Darrell Potter Obituary

Darrell L. Potter, 74 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, at his home.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 11, 2016, from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant followed by full military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. A Moose Ritual Service will be held at 5:30 at the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge followed by a time of food and fellowship. Memorials may be directed to HCI Hospice Care Services or to the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge in his memory.

Darrell was born on November 26, 1941, in Quincy, Illinois the son of Kermit Earl & Dorothy Maude Combs Potter. He moved to Iowa in 1954, and attended Lockridge School and Fairfield High School. Darrell served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962 serving two tours in Germany. He was united in marriage to Vicky Fullenkamp on May 29, 1990. Darrell retired from the Mt. Pleasant Corrections Facility on December 30, 2003 after 31 years. He was an avid Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR, collecting Cardinal and Iowa Hawkeye items, playing cards, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge where he had served in many different areas.

Darrell is survived by his wife Vicky of Mt. Pleasant, and his children; Mike (Helen) Meth of Johnstown, CO, Kim (Steve) Moseley of Salem, Kermit Meth of Mediapolis, Brett Potter of New London, Chris Moeller of Salem and Diane (Aaron) Faivre of Washington, Illinois, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his brothers and sisters; Dennis (Shari) Potter of Kellogg, Karen (Hjmack) Veilleux of Canada, Kathy (Randy) Bush of Mt. Pleasant and Kay (LZ) Coleman of New London, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Carey Stephen Meth, and two brothers; Darwin and Dwight.
