David Long Obituary
David W. Long 83, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013,
at his home in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013, at St. Alphonusus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial may be directed to the Great River Hospice in his memory.
David was born on August 23, 1930, in Center Township the son of William Isaac & Elizabeth Marie Krohn Long. He was united in marriage to Neva Prieto on October 27, 1956, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He had worked at the A.C.F. in Albuquerque for 13 years before moving back to the Mt. Pleasant area where he began to work at the Iowa Ammunition Plant in Middletown retiring in 1993. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an avid reader and most of all spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Neva of Mt. Pleasant and his children; Vivian Baxter (Randy) of Mt. Pleasant, Dwayne Long (Jackie) of Missouri, Bonnie Auwerda of Mt. Pleasant, Neva Irene Smith of Mt. Pleasant and Robert Long (Vida) of Mt. Pleasant; 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents, one son Raymond Charles Long, two brothers Raymond and Ralph and one sister Elizabeth Sanders.
