Debra (Deb) K. (Hiatt) Mueller

Debra “Deb” K. Mueller, 70, of Mount Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at her home.

Deb was born on October 2, 1954, in Fairfield, the daughter of Edward Eugene and Sharon Hutchinson-Hiatt-Hillbrant.  Deb was united in marriage to James E. Mueller, Jr., on March 16, 1974, at Finley Chapel.  Deb was a hard worker and had a very caring heart.  She was always there for her family and friends.  Deb was a bookkeeper for many years working for Smith Feeds, Mount Pleasant News and later for Tom Hassenfritz Equipment. She enjoyed gardening, racing, a cold Busch Light and eating at Jefferson Street Grill.  Deb was an avid Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan.   The most important part of her life was attending her children and grandkids events. 

Those thankful in sharing in her life include her husband of 51 years, Jim and her children, Jimmy (Monica) Mueller of Mount Pleasant and Jeff Mueller of Boone, her grandchildren, Brea (Kevin Baxter), William (Jenna Smith), Josh, Nessa and Finn, her two sisters, Pam (Gary) Oetken of Danville, and Christy Church of Wayland, her 2 step-sisters, Sara (Darin) Ladlie of Ft Dodge and Susan (Ryan) Bayse of Waterloo, one step-brother, Steve (Tina) Witthoft of Mount Pleasant, a brother-in-law, Mike Tisdale and a sister-in-law, Heather Gooden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Eldon Witthoft, one sister, Cindy Tisdale and one brother, Ed Hiatt.

A celebration of Deb’s life will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.  Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will be present from 4 to 7 p.m. that evening.  In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in her memory.
