Dennis Sammons Obituary

Dennis E. Sammons, 68, of Rome passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016, at his home with his family at his side.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at the Rome Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery rural Rome. Friends may call after noon on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice House in West Burlington and or to the Rome Baptist Church in his memory.

Dennis was born on March 4, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant the son of Clarence & Irma Lee Sammons. He was united in marriage to Georgia Calhoun on June 4, 1966, at Kahoka, Missouri. Dennis worked for his father before going to work for Vega for 13 years, Ceco Building Systems for a year then to Ideal Ready Mix for 35 years retiring in 2012. He was known for his ability to fix anything and was a hard worker. Dennis and Georgia along with their son Dean operated Deano's Restaurant for 23 years. He was a former mayor of Rome and was currently serving on the city council of Rome. He enjoyed racing, square dancing, and Christmas time. He attended Rome Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Georgia of Rome and his children; Edward (Brenda) Sammons of Rome, Dean (Susan) Sammons of Rome, PareSetta Sammons of Rome and Annette (Tim) Gerleman of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; Brock, Tyler, Cameron, Clayton, Grace, Chelsea, Jessica, Jamie, Jacquelyn and Jalyn and 3 great grandchildren, one brother Guy (Diane) Sammons of Mt. Pleasant and 2 sisters; Esta Ferguson of Donnellson and Rosie Wiggins of Mt. Pleasant.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Darrell, Don and Henry.
