Donald Carlson Obituary

Donald (Donnie) E. Carlson 63 of rural Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, June 6, 2008, at his home.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven Zittergruen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established to the American Diabetes Foundation or to Midwest Old Threshers Association.

Donnie was born on April 17, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant the son of Robert & Betty Mark Carlson. He graduated from Waco High School, and later attended Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Mary Jackson on July 17, 1965 in Swedesburg, they later divorced. He farmed his whole lifetime and was best known for his Belgian horses. He enjoyed refurbishing old machinery, fishing, camping, horse pulls, ham radios and attending his grandchildren actitives. He was a member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Church and the Draft Horse Association, and had served on the Midwest Old Threshers board for 24 yrs. He served as a Reserve Deputy for the Henry County Sheriffs Office for 13 years.

He is survived by his children: Teresa Vandenberg of Morning Sun, Sandy French of Erie Colo. Pam Lasswell of Mt. Pleasant and Danny Carlson of Mt. Pleasant. 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. His parents: Robert & Betty Carlson of Mt. Pleasant and two sisters: Janice Henss of Mt. Pleasant and Lori Daniel of Aurora Colo.

Donnie was preceded in death by his grandparents.
