Donald Maddix Obituary

Donald L. Maddix 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010, at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Harold Dorsey officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home; the family will not be present. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Don was born on February 9, 1925, in Fairfield, Iowa the son of Roy C. & Myra Fleming Maddix. He was united in marriage to Betty Butcher on September 13, 1948 at Olds, Iowa. He served his country during W.W. II, in the 30th Division of the Signal Corps.

He retired from the Mt. Pleasant Post Office after 36 years of service in 1983; he also retired from the Iowa National Guard after 22 years of service. Don was a member of the National Association of Federal Employees, Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Veteran of the Battle of the Bulge.

He is survived by his wife Betty and his children: Robert Maddix and his wife Barbara of Iowa City and Debra Shepard and her husband Todd of Mesa, Arizona. Two grandchildren: Nicholas and Rachel.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and one son: Scott A. Maddix in 1981.
