Doris Lucile Septer Lawrence, 92 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Park Place Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Houston Sears and Pastor Jim Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Sunday where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Calvary Baptist Church in her memory.
Doris was born on November 16, 1918, in rural Stockport the daughter of Edwin L. & Mary Willis Williamson. She attended school in the rural Glasgow and Round Prairie area and graduated from Salem High School in 1937. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Septer on April 3, 1937, in Kahoka; he preceded her in death on May 2, 1970. On September 24, 1978, she was united in marriage to Merle Lawrence at the Round Prairie Baptist Church; he preceded her in death on August 27, 1985.
Doris enjoyed taking care of her home and family, helping her husband on the farm, and babysitting for her grandchildren and the children of other family members and friends. She also worked as a clerk at Spurgeons and John Green Department Stores and was parts manager at Haworth Motor Company in Mt. Pleasant, also at the Department of Social Services, retiring from there in 1979. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothing for family and costumes for local children's groups. She loved doing crafts of all types, especially silk flowers, and helped her daughter make silk flower arrangements for several weddings. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed going for car rides with her special friend, John (Jack) McNeely. Through the years, she was an active member of First Baptist Church, Round Prairie Baptist Church, and Calvary Baptist Church. She was involved in women's missions groups, and loved the fellowship of the widow ladie's group at Calvary Baptist Church.
Doris is survived by her children: Earnestine Harvey of Salem, Retha (Don) Sammons of Salem, Ronald (Judy) Septer of Mt. Pleasant and Janice (Jim) Miller of Fulton Missouri. 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one infant daughter Ruth (Retha's twin) one granddaughter: Robin Sammons, one son and daughter-in-law Earnest and Shirley Septer, son-in-law Wayne Harvey, and her brother: Carl Williamson
