Dorothea Conn Obituary

Dorothea Velma Conn 94, of Woodbury, Minnesota and former resident of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the Woodwinds Health Center in Woodbury, Minnesota.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Jan Dougherty officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will be present from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice in her memory.

Dorothea was born on July 23, 1918, in Salem the daughter of Ray & Ouida McMasters Doan. She graduated from Salem High School and was united in marriage to Carl Robert Dougherty on April 8, 1939; he was killed in action on May 2, 1945 in Okinawa, from this marriage a son was born Richard Allen Dougherty. She later married Melbourne W. Conn on August 10, 1949; he preceded her in death on March 8, 2007. She was a nurse's aide at the Henry County Memorial Hospital, receptionist for Dr. Byron Hartley for several years, had work at the Mt. Pleasant Treatment Center for several years and along with her husband they owned Main Street Café in Mt. Pleasant.

Dorothea enjoyed raising vegetables and canning attending yard sales and having one of her own, watching Iowa football and basketball, quilting, genealogy, enjoyed camping along the Skunk River and traveling to the National Doan Reunion. She was a member of St. Michael Episcopal Church of Mt. Pleasant, Tri T., and Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. She was a longtime resident of Mt. Pleasant until 2009 when she moved to Woodbury to be near her son and family.

She is survived by her son Richard and his wife Janet Hayes Dougherty of Woodbury, MN, four grandchildren: Natalie Petrillo (Tony), Rick Dougherty (Patti), Mike Dougherty (Monica) and Libby Sloot (Marc); seven great grandchildren; Sam, Mike, Mara, Cole, Emma, Abigail and Lou; nieces and nephews.

Dorothea is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one sister; Vera Church and one brother; Marvin Doan.
