Dorothy Pohren Obituary

Dorothy M. Pohren, 91, of Lockridge passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Sweden United Methodist Church rural Lockridge with Rev. Dianne Brokken & Rev. Peggy Egbert officiating. Burial will be in the New Sweden Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Wednesday at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the New Sweden United Methodist Church.

Dorothy was born on April 25, 1920, in Buchanan Township, in Jefferson County the daughter of Sherman & Blanche Eshelman Norton. She lived her first years on the farm, started school at Lynn No 9 Country School, until she was nine years old, the family moved to the Shuppy place where she attended school at Mohawk No 9 graduated 8th grade, then attended Brighton High School graduating in 1939. She was united in marriage on December 28, 1940, to Harold Pohren. They farmed all their lives and settled on 160 acres of Ralph Bennetts, which they bought in 1966. Harold passed away on November 8, 1966. She was a member of the New Sweden United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Lockridge Senior Citizens, Lockridge Senior Kitchen Band, and was an adopted Grandma for many people.

She is survived by her children: Patsy McLain (John), Joyce LeDuc (Jim) all of Lockridge, Jim Pohren (Linda) of Mt. Pleasant, Jack Pohren (Donna), Sharon Nelson (Danny), Sue Hopper (Don), John Pohren (Mary), Sheila Westphal (Bryan) all of Lockridge and Charlotte Pohren of Mason City. 25 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren and 24 step great-grandchildren. Her sister Velma Derby of Washington.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 sons: Glen infancy, Jerry, two grandsons: Dusty Carlson, Paul Rauscher, 7 brothers: Art, Dale, Russell, Verle, Pete, Floyd and Raymond and one sister: Viola.
