Eloise VanZile, 82, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of the Rome community, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.
Eloise was born on April 7, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Ernest “Red” and Nevah (Septer) Calhoun. She was united in marriage to David Kelley, they later divorced. She then married Charles P. VanZile on October 7, 1967, in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2013. Eloise was a hard worker throughout her life and was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her children, Keith Kelley of Rome and Jason VanZile of Mt. Pleasant, four grandchildren, her sisters, Edna Stott of Burlington and Georgia Sammons of Rome, along with several nieces and nephews.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands and one sister, Nancy E. Calhoun and two brothers, Darrell Calhoun and Francis (Pee Wee) Calhoun.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Rome Baptist Church with Pastor Guy Sammons officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. A memorial has been established in her memory. According to her wishes cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
