Erma S. Garretson, 96, formerly of Salem passed away on January 12, 2011, at Overland Park Place in Kansas.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Salem South Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Helterbran officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
Erma was born on June 26, 1914, in Salem the daughter of Leon & Mary Lee Smith. After graduating from Salem High School, she married her high school sweet-heart, Owen L. Garretson, who later became a nationally known petroleum industry executive. His career gave their family the opportunity to live in and enjoy many parts of the country including Iowa, Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. After her husband of 69 years died, she moved to Overland Park in 2003 to be close to her family. She was a world class puzzle master and enjoyed working crossword and jigsaw puzzles every day, along with that she enjoyed playing bingo with her friends three times a week at Overland Park Place.
Erma is survived by her sons: John Garretson of Middleton, Idaho and Don Garretson of Mission, Kansas. 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. One sister: Betty Hammond of Paradise Valley, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Leon Garretson, and her daughter: Susan Gattis, one grandson: Cory Garretson and one great grandson: Zachery Garretson.
