Gary H. Coleman 71 of rural Fairfield passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Round Prairie Baptist Church south of Lockridge with Pastor Kevin Dice and Aaron Helterbran officiating. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Lambirth Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Round Prairie Baptist Church or to the Lambirth Cemetery in his memory.
Gary was born on December 5, 1936, on a farm south of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa the son of Stephen E. & Iva E. Young Coleman. He graduated from Cantril High School in 1955. He married Gloria Gideon on October 31, 1958 they later divorced. He then married Kay Clark on September 17, 1966. Gary worked at Rockwell International in Fairfield for over 20 years. He was a Kirby salesman for 5 years, and worked at Ramsey Jones Homes in LaGrange, Missouri for 17 years until he retired in December of 2006. He was a faithful member of the Round Prairie Baptist Church south of Lockridge.
Gary is survived by his wife Kay of rural Fairfield, his children Teri Helterbran and her husband David of Lockridge, Marshall Coleman and his wife Joann of Lowell, Michele Nelson and her husband Don of Cedar Rapids and Mary Frances Coleman of Iowa City. Nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. One brother, Kenneth Coleman and his wife Betty of Farmington, and two sisters Darla Cassady of Mountain Home, AR and Mary E. Harward and her husband Russell of Hot Springs Village, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Christine and infant son Reginal, and infant twin granddaughters Monica and Melissa, and five brothers: Keith, Leslie Lee (Buddy) Charles, Marvin and Gene.
