Gary Meinhardt Obituary

Gary L. Meinhardt, 62, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer, along with his faithful companion, Joe Dog.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Embury Cemetery west of Donnellson with Pastor Mark Lowman officiating. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Those wishing to attend the service may meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Gary was born on January 14, 1946, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Herbert & LaVonne Huston Meinhardt. He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the Navy from 1963 to 1969, on the USS Chicago. He served on the Keokuk Police Department for a few years, and then worked as an Auto Body Technician in Keokuk. He had lived in Florida, working as an landscaper and later moved to Mt. Pleasant where he started his own business, Meinhardt Construction, building homes in Mt. Pleasant and later doing landscaping and retaining walls until his death.

He is survived by his partner, Karen Reinig, and his mother, LaVonne, both of Mt. Pleasant, his son, Phillip, of Orlando, Florida, two brothers, Mark Meinhardt and his wife Nancy of Keokuk, and Douglas Meinhardt and his wife Linda of Cullman, AL, his aunts, Edna Meinhardt, of Keokuk and Evelyn Robertson and her husband Clarence of Mt. Pleasant, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, several aunts and uncles and cousins.
