Gertrude L. Lite, 90, of Glasgow passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at White Oak Cemetery north of Rome with Rev. Earl Swigart officiating. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to be directed to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or to the Lockridge Lions in her memory.
Gertrude was born on September 11, 1924, at Stockport, Iowa the daughter of Chester & Grace L. Hammons Douglas. She was united in marriage to Milo Messer on May 3, 1941 at Kahoka, he preceded her in death on November 8, 1969, she later married Stan Lite on July 31, 1971 in Keokuk and he preceded her in death on November 26, 1992. She worked at Sylvania in Burlington for 15 years and Heatilator of Mt. Pleasant for 22 years retiring in 1989. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her cookies, candy, rolls, and she enjoyed reading mystery books.
Gertrude is survived by her children: Larry (Gloria) Messer, Michael (Jane) Messer both of Mt. Pleasant, Christine (Mike) Weinard of Iowa City, step-son Robert Lite and step-daughter Betty Smith, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, her sister Dorothy Sams of Mediapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one son, Terry Messer, one grandson Ray Messer, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
