Grace McDowell Obituary
Grace O. McDowell 95 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Sunny Brook of Ashford Park in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at 10:00 am at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant. Rev. Wayne Kamm will officiate. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery at Salem, Iowa. Friends may call after noon on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at the Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church in her memory.
Grace was born on December 27, 1911, at Salem, Iowa the daughter of Forest L. & Elsie E. Long McVey. She was united in marriage to Ernest R. McDowell on April 4, 1928 in Mt. Pleasant. She and her husband farmed west of Mt. Pleasant for many yrs. During WWII she aided in issuing food stamp books in the West Highland school district. She was a lunchroom manager at the Mt. Pleasant High School. She enjoyed needlework and had made quilts for her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by her children: Opal Haviland and her husband Charles of Ottumwa, Hazel Carter and her husband Joe of Vienna, Virginia, Arlo McDowell and his wife Madeline Clark of Windsor Heights, and Cecil McDowell and his wife Helene of Kingman, AZ. Eleven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Two sisters: Ruth Isaacson of Salem and Leota Holland of Ft. Madison.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons Ralph and Marlo two brothers Kenneth and Raymond.
