Howard L. Stewart, 81, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant with Bryan Katchay officiating. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery north of Rome, Iowa with full military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the White Oak Cemetery in his memory.
Howard was born on November 5, 1927 in Monmouth Illinois the son of Herman E. & Mildred E. Milner Stewart. Howard served his country from 1946 to 1947 in the Army. He was united in marriage to Woneta Fetterman on October 22, 1949, at Rock Island, Illinois. He farmed and worked at Malleable Iron and Falco in Fairfield before going to work for Champion Spark Plug in Burlington where he retired in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and most of all his family.
He is survived by his wife, and children: Terrie James, Steven Stewart and his wife Donna, and Kellay McVey and her husband Kelly all of Mt. Pleasant. 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Two sisters: Marguerite Fagerburg of Havana, Illinois, and Mary Vance, and his brother: Jerry Stewart both of Milan, Illinois.
Howard was preceded in death by his parent's one sister Jean Larson and one brother Robert in infancy.
