Irene Boal Obituary
Irene D. Boal, 87, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Regan Stoops officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church or to Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit in her memory.
Irene was born on January 3, 1924, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Edward & Selma Joanna Kombrink Dodds. She was united in marriage to Dale Boal on April 22, 1949; he preceded her in death on October 19, 2007. She was a legal secretary and had worked at the Clifford Vance Law Firm and for the Bell and Vilsack Law Firm retiring in 1993. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant for over 60 years, was the first female deacon of the church and had served in many different areas. Irene also belonged to the Barettes and Scribblers clubs, Mt. Pleasant Choral Society, and was a proud grandmother and great grandmother and a mentor to her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children: Ted Boal and his wife Debra of Maple Grove, MN, Scott Boal and his wife Lana of Everett Washington, and Bonnie Allen and her husband Jim of Waukee, Iowa; she had six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers: Ralph, Dale and Wendell Dodds and one sister: Dorothy Bezard.
