James H. ‘Jim” Gill, 95 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.
Jim was born on September 24, 1928, at Glasgow, Iowa the son of Nira and Linnie Dell (Lee) Gill. He attended Mt. Zion, Clay Hill and Pleasant Grove Country Schools. Jim was united in marriage to Nola Pross on February 24, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant. They later divorced.
He worked at the Mental Health Institute in maintenance for 3o years until his retirement in 1992. Jim was a licensed amateur (HAM) radio operator with call sign K0HGC and had been a member of the ARRL. Jim was a gifted musician, had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor.
Jim is survived by his children, Thomas Gill, of Mt Union, William Gill and Philip Gill, both of Kansas City, Missouri, Rose Fischer, of New London and Michelle James of Thornburg, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his special lifelong friend and loving companion, Peggy Elder of Winfield.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister, one daughter, Patricia Hauser, and one granddaughter.
A private graveside service will be held at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. The family will not be present. In lieu of flowers his family suggests you make a memorial to your favorite charity in his memory
