James Green Obituary

James Millard Green 86 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 29th at 4:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Herbert Shafer and Rev. Richard Latta officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Oakland Mills Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 28th at the Murphy Funeral Home where there will be a Masonic Service at 7p.m. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until service time on Sunday at the church. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church and to Iowa Wesleyan College in his memory.

Jim was born on July 6, 1923 in Mt. Pleasant the son of Harry Frank & Lorraine Mildred Lawrence Green. At the age of 12 he was confirmed in the Methodist Church and remained a member for 74 years, attended Iowa Wesleyan College and belonged to the Lambda Chi Fraternity. He served in the US Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific, Asian and European theaters from 1943 to 1945. He was united in marriage to Maisie A. Taeger on June 8, 1947. Jim was a lifetime member of the American Legion and V.F.W Post 2561, past master of Mt. Pleasant Masonic Lodge #8, past member of Rotary Club, past Chamber of Commerce President and past city councilman and mayor of Mt. Pleasant. He received the Community Service Award from the James Harlan Chapter of the DAR.

Jim enjoyed gardening, oil painting, singing, attending athletic events, his six grandsons and having coffee with friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, and three children: Sally Kinney (Richard) of Mt. Pleasant, John Green (Jung Hee) of Northville Michigan and Sue Vincent (Steve) of Cedar Rapids. Six grandsons: Matthew Kinney, Mark Kinney, Wesley Green, Quinn Vincent, Samuel Vincent and Connor Vincent. One great grandson: Kayden Kinney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Marcus Vincent and his sister Margaret Eckey.
