James A. Hurley 71 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at his home in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 9 am on Friday at the Murphy funeral home where the family will receive friends from noon until service time. Chaplain Dean Graber will officate the service. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.
James was born on September 11, 1939, in Livonia, Missouri the son of Ola Edgar & Vena Fern Crooks Hurley. He was united in marriage to Judith C. Hunt in October of 1958, in Wapello, they divorced, she preceded him in death on December 24, 2000, and he later married Paula J. Dodge on December 26, 1987 at Mt. Sterling. He was a welder for Modern Welding retiring in September 11, 2001. He played guitar and was lead singer in his band for seven years, he could fix anything and enjoyed remolding guitars.
James is survived by his wife Paula of Mt. Pleasant, and his children: Brenda Hurley and Kim Hurley both of Burlington, James Hurley (Tammy) of Coco, Florida, Mike Hurley (Jamie) of Keosauqua. Six granddaughters, five grandsons, one great grandson and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, three sisters and three nephews.
