Janet M. Watson 72, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday evening April 15, 2008 at the Henry County Health Center.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 20 at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home.
Janet was born on July 22, 1935 in Des Moines County, Iowa the daughter of Leonard & Martha Keitzer Robb. She graduated from Yarmouth High School in the class of 1952, and attended Burlington School of Business. She was united in marriage to Pearly Watson on November 21, 1954. Janet was the assistant to the Mt. Pleasant Chamber Executive Vice President until 1980 when she was promoted to the Chamber Manager, and served until 1983, and has been an Ambassador since 1985. She served as Secretary/Treasurer to the Henry County Industrial Development Corporation from 1972 to 1983, member of the Board of Directors from 1983 to 1996. She owned and operated the Buns and Company Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant from 1983 to 1985, after the sale of the restaurant she went to work at KILJ Radio in Mt. Pleasant as a sales manager until she retired in 2001. She received the Governor's Award for Volunteerism in 1985, the Citizen of the Year Award in 1999. She served on the Governor of Iowa's Recognition of State Employees, was involved in the Henry County Republican Central Committee. Mt. Pleasant Girls Softball League Board of Directors during the building of the Complex. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Optimist Club, Mt. Pleasant Community Schools Booster Club, City of Mt. Pleasant Downtown Development Committee, and the First United Methodist Church in which she had served on many different committees', and was president of the U.M.W. she was a member of the Mother's Club and Chapter A of the T.T.T. She was a Hospice Volunteer and was a Patient Advocate at Park Place, and Volunteered at the Henry County Health Center. Janet had worked at the VanVorhies Haus of Mt. Pleasant and was a full time employee of the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards and holiday decorating.
Janet is survived by her children: Lori Baylor of Mt. Pleasant, Carol Stoker of Mesa, Az. and Jerry Watson of Dallas, TX. Her brother Richard Robb of Morning Sun, and her brother-in-law Terry Myers of Stronghurst, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Joyce.
