Jay Hamm Obituary
Jay Hamm 93 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Harold Dorsey officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery and memorials have been established to the Salem South Cemetery.
Jay was born on March 15, 1914, at Waterloo, Iowa the son of Royal C. & Bessie Adams Hamm. He was united in marriage to Velma Stutzman on May 22, 1937, at Memphis Missouri. Jay was raised and schooled in Van Buren and Jefferson Counties. In his adult years he farmed in Henry County in the Salem vicinity for a number of years. Upon leaving the farm, he was a custodian for the Mt. Pleasant School system, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Velma of 70 years, three sons: Art Hamm and his wife Beverly of Winfield, Don Hamm and his wife Cheryl of Sioux City and Bob Hamm and his wife Judy of Meta, Missouri. 12 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
