John Sammons Obituary

John F. Sammons, 71 of Rome passed away on Friday evening February 26, 2010,
at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2nd at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Jerry Phillips officiating. Burial will at the Grant Cemetery at Rome, Iowa. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory.

John was born on September 11, 1938 at Rome, Iowa the son of Harry C. & Mercedes Ruby Sammons. He was united in marriage to Carol White on February 11, 1963, at Aledo Illinois. He worked for Cessford Construction Company for 45 yrs and retiring in March of 2009. He served as mayor of Rome, helped build the Rome Baptist Church, City Hall and was the Road Crew for the City of Rome. He owned and operated Sammons and Sons Trucking, and was a generous and patience man. He enjoyed going to pawn shops, going to auctions and spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife Carol, two sons: Brian Burden of Mt. Pleasant, Doug Burden and his wife Brenda of New London and one daughter: Denise Cosgrove and her husband Tony of Salem. 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Two sisters: Myra Painter of Ottumwa and Sharon Hemm of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Johnnie and one daughter Rhonda.
