John Veith Obituary
John H. Veith 66 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7th at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday, May 6th at the Murphy Funeral Home, at 5:30 p.m. there will be a Knight of Columbus Rosary, followed by family visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30. Memorial may be directed to South East Iowa Dialysis Unit, Great River Hospice and to Masses.
John was born on January 21, 1945 in Mt. Pleasant the son of Leo & Laura Brandmeyer Veith. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1963, and graduated from Iowa State University. He worked for 39 years as a machinist for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He farmed and was a steward of the land. John was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where he served as usher for 45 years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus achieving the 4th degree.
He is survived by his sister: Kathryn Veith of Mt. Pleasant and his brother Daniel Veith (Kathy) of Davenport; three nephews: Austin, Jacob and Joseph, one niece Molly.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
