Katherine Scarff Obituary

Katherine K. Scarff 87 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Henry County Health Center.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Rome Baptist Church with Rev. John Royer officiating. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials have been established to the Rome Baptist Church or to the Grant Cemetery.

Kay was born on January 10, 1920 on the family farm the daughter of William Clark & Dora Beaber-Miller. On September 22, 1940 she was united in marriage to Marvin Lanferman, he preceded her in death in 1962, in 1966 she married Richard Scarff, and he preceded her in death in August of 2005. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and attended Parson College in Fairfield and graduated from Burlington Business College. She was a secretary for Gaylor & Gaylor Law Offices and the Iowa Ammunition Plant, and was a cook at the Mental Health Institute and the Mt. Pleasant Prison. Kay & Richard owned and operated Dick & Kay's Lounge in Rome for a number of years. She loved good food and was a wonderful cook, she enjoyed watching TV and spent many hours watching her beloved Iowa Hawkeye's. She loved her family and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Rome Baptist Church, and past member of the Women of the Moose.

Kay is survived by her children: Reta Noblett-Feld of Iowa City, Randy Lanferman of Mt. Pleasant and Mike Lanferman of Texas. 2 step-daughters: Vicky Scarff of Wellman, Iowa and Nora Scarff of Mt. Pleasant. 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. 4 sisters: Jo Miller of Galesburg, IL, Mildred Hill of Mt. Pleasant, Pat Talbert of Galesburg, IL. Mary Federman of Mt. Pleasant and one brother Glen Miller of Mt. Pleasant. Numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and one daughter Linda Ledbetter.
