Kenneth "Metz" E. Metzger 79 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 18th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Regan Stoops officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in his memory.
Metz was born on August 31, 1929 in Mt. Pleasant the son of Earl & Juanita Mae Craig Cook. He enlisted in the Navy and was later medically discharged. He was united in marriage to Ina Bauman on August 4, 1968 in Sigourney, Iowa. They later divorced. He worked for Henry County Highway Department Secondary Roads as a surveyor for 46 yrs. surveying nearly every county road and bridge in Henry county until his retirement in 1992, in addition he was co-owner of Duck Pin Bowling Alley in Mt. Pleasant for a several years, and had also worked at Iowa Wesleyan College as a night custodian.
He was very dedicated with his role as a grandfather. He spent a lot of his free time sitting and talking with his grandkids laughing and kidding around, watching cattle auctions, westerns, Wheel of Fortune and Dr. House. He enjoyed going for coffee with his cousin Jim Schenk. Kenneth was a wiz with math and loved to sit and crunch numbers anyway he could.
He is survived by his daughter: Sherrie Twidwell and her husband Bryan of Mt. Pleasant, 4 grandchildren: Haley, Olivia, Brandon and Kaitlin. Two step brothers and one step sister, and many wonderful cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
