LaVerne Ada Sticken 88 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28th at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Nevinville, Iowa. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27th at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant until 7:00 p.m. there will be no family visitation. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
LaVerne was born on January 23, 1921 at Prescott, Iowa the daughter of Walter H. & Jessie A. Coleman Glade. She graduated from the Creston High School in the class of 1938. She was united in marriage to John Karl Sticken on January 15, 1939 at Brooks, Iowa. She worked for 20 years as a salad maker at Bernings Café in Creston, Iowa, and was a former member of the Creston First United Methodist Church and now is a member of the First United Methodist of Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by her children: Karen Kay Krogmeier and her husband Marvin of Mt. Pleasant and John Karl Sticken Jr. and his friend Lois Butler of Oviedo, Florida. 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Five sisters: Doris Vogel of Holcomb, Illinois, LeAnna Talent of Munster, Indiana, Betty Griswold of Chariton, Iowa, Iva Kenagy of Zephyrhills, Florida and Viola Noerenberg of Antioch, Illinois.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son James W. a great granddaughter Heather Freeland, daughter-in-law Georgina Sticken and three brothers: Charles, Raymond and Marinous.
