Larry B. Nelson 80, of Bonaparte and formerly of Lockridge, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the Van Buren County Hospital.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 24th at 10:30 a.m. at the New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery rural Lockridge. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be in the New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Lockridge Veterans Association. A memorial has been established to the New Sweden Lutheran Church in his memory.
Larry was born on February 13, 1930, at Four Corners the son of Harold & Margaret McGaw Nelson. He graduated from Lockridge High School, and was united in marriage to Inez E. Ballard on November 30, 1959 in Burlington, Iowa. He served his country during the Korean War. Larry owned and operated the DX Station in Lockridge, he was a former member of the Lockridge Lions Club, had served on the Lockridge City Council, Lockridge Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the First Augustana Lutheran Church of Lockridge.
Larry is survived by his children: Alan Nelson of Texas, Rob Nelson of Lockridge and Pamatha Neeley of Bonaparte; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one step grand-daughter; his sister Patty Glenn of Fredericksburg, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one daughter Linda Sue.
