Mamie V. Olson 106 of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, June 30, 2006 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Phil Borleske will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until service time at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the Swedish Historical Society in her memory.
Mamie was born on April 8, 1900 at Swedesburg, Iowa the daughter of Andrew Frederick E. & Anna Sofia Carlson Olson. She began her teaching career in 1919, in a one room schoolhouse where she taught for 5 yrs at the Crawford Country School and then 24 yrs at Olds, and finished at Van Allen when she retired in 1969. She was a member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. After retiring from teaching she babysat for many children over the years and did volunteer work at the Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop, and at Old Threshers.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Nona Olson of Mt. Pleasant and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Weslie, Leonard and Paul and two sisters Esther Orris and Ruth Olson.
