Margaret McCabe Obituary
Margaret M. McCabe 91, of Salem passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hillsboro Christian Church with Dan Spray officiating. Burial will be the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice in her memory.
Margaret was born on May 3, 1919, at Hillsboro, Iowa the daughter of Max & Myrtle White Spray. She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. McCabe on October 9, 1937, at Kahoka, Missouri; he preceded her in death on April 22, 2000. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1936, and received her teacher's degree from Iowa Wesleyan College. She lived on the McCabe Century Farm for 60 yrs and enjoyed gardening, crafts, cooking and providing for her family was her first love. She was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and the Alpha Club.
She is survived by her children: Diane McCabe-Dayton of Kalona, Susan McCabe of Iowa City, Chuck McCabe of Louisville, Texas and Mark McCabe of Fairfield. Four grand-daughters: Kelly, Carol, Kimberly and Kalin and 4 great grandchildren. Two brothers: Tom Spray of Oregon, Bud Spray of Rock Island, 2 sisters: Donna Jean Rhue of Arkansas and Clarice Johnson of Stockport.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son Jan on December 12, 1971, two sisters: Dorothy and Julia and three brothers: John, Raymond and Sam
