Martha Lucille Gillispie 94, of Trenton passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the New London Christian Church in New London with Rev. Rod Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Finley Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. A memorial in the name of Lucille Gillispie has been established.
Martha was born on September 22, 1919, in Davis County, the daughter of Perly & Zepha Stogdill Bowman, her step-father was Orty Stogdill. She was united in marriage to Dewey Gillispie on May 9, 1938, in Unionville, Missouri; they had a strong love for each other and were only parted at his death on July 20, 1993. She attended school in West Grove, Iowa, and had lived in Garden City, Kansas where she worked in a plastics factory, cleaned homes and worked at a nursing home. She belonged to a church group and was a Ground Observer Corps Volunteer; however her main calling was to be a wife and mother. Martha loved music, especially playing the organ, piano and the guitar. She also enjoyed knitting, was a wonderful cook and loved to can and preserve food.
Martha Lucille is survived by her son Ray Dean Gillespie of Trenton, and one step son Kenneth L. Gillispie of Mt. Pleasant; seven step-grandchildren, 22 step-great grandchildren and 28 step great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, two step brothers, one sister and two step-sisters.
