Martha Peterson Obituary
Martha R. Peterson 89, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Gary Van Nyhuis officiating. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery at Salem, Iowa. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Martha was born on July 14, 1921 in Salem, Iowa the daughter of Charles Walter & Lena Esther Wood McDorman. She attended school in Salem. In 1946, she was united in marriage to Raymond Peterson in Salem, Iowa. He preceded her in death in December of 1988. The Peterson family lived on a farm a mile east of Salem until 1967, when they moved to Mt. Pleasant. Martha was a wonderful wife homemaker, who enjoyed the company of neighbors and friends. She lived on Henry Street in Mt. Pleasant until 1994, when she moved to the Mapleleaf Apts. In 2007, after failing health she moved to Arbor Court. Martha enjoyed the company of many friends and neighbors and tock great delight in going out to eat, attending church on Sunday, and visiting with her daughters and their families, she never knew a stranger.
Those thankful for sharing in Martha's life include her 4 daughters: Alice Roberts, of Milwaukee, WI, Cathy Schatzke (David) of Mt. Pleasant, Carol Ledbetter (Michael) of Mt. Pleasant, and Arlene Walljasper (Doug) of West Point. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her sister: Virginia Savage of Hamilton, IL. and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant daughter, Dorothy Ann, three brothers: Elmer, Albert and Jess McDorman and four sisters: Sylvia Wall, Alberta McDorman, Mildred Leafgreen and Esther Tenney.
