Mary Prottsman Obituary

Mary L. Hoover Prottsman, 77, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

 Her children invite family and friends to call as they wish to share memories, enjoy a light supper and wear a fancy hat to celebrate her life on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Manning Hall in Mt. Pleasant.  Friends may call from 10:00 until 2 p.m., on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.    According to her wishes following the service her body will be cremated.  A memorial has been established to the Sisters of Humility. 

 Mary was born on April 8, 1935, in Henry County, the daughter of Stephen & Mary Swailes Hoover. Mary attended and lived at Ottumwa Heights Academy in Ottumwa, after her father suffered a stroke, she returned home where she graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1953.  She was united in marriage to James Prottsman on February 6, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant; he preceded her in death on April 5, 2010.  Mary continued her education and graduated from Southeastern Community College with a Criminal Justice Degree in 1981.  She was a lab tech at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, had worked at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant, and was a Realtor/Real Estate Broker.  Mary and her late husband owned Prottsman Real Estate of Mt. Pleasant. 

 Mary was a member of the MLS of Realtors had been on the Mental Health Board, past president of the Southeast Iowa Trial Riders Association, St. Alphonus Catholic Church of Mt. Pleasant.  She enjoyed sewing, collecting antiques and crystal, traveling, gathering with family and friends. She was an avid reader.

 She is survived by children, Steven his wife Martha of Algona, Michael his wife Diane of Mt. Pleasant, Anthony of Mt. Pleasant; her daughter: Tracy Beasley her husband Jim of Mt. Pleasant.  7 grandchildren; Luke (Tammia) Loren (Holly), Katie (Erik), Kayla (Jamial), Michael, Jude and Valerie and 7 great grandchildren; Portia, Brooks, Kenna, Jarris, Cambrie, Jae and one on the way. Her brother Robert Hoover and his wife Jewel of Mt. Pleasant and her sister Ida Barron and her husband Ron of New London.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers Patrick and Herbert.
