Max Baese Obituary

Max H. Baese 83 of Lockridge passed away on Wednesday August 27, 2008, at the Veterans Medical Center in Iowa City after a reoccurring battle with lung cancer.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lockridge Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Newman officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Glasgow Cemetery. Max has donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Max was born on August 20, 1925 in Washington County, near Brighton, the son of Joe & Mable Wieneke Boese. He started working away from home in 1941 until entering the Army in December of 1943, serving with the 10th Mountain Cavalry Reconnaissance Troops during WWII. as a scout in Italy receiving two Bronze Stars for bravery. He was united in marriage to Elaine Shelman on August 12, 1951 at the Round Prairie Baptist Church south of Lockridge. Max had a variety of jobs during his working career including the Lockridge Lumber Company, CBQ Railroad, Iowa Ordinance Ammunition Plant, Dexter Washing Machine Company, American Chain and Cable for 24 years, Goodyear Tire and Rubber and Mackay Envelope before retiring in 1992. At the same time, Max also ran a small family farm selling purebred Duroc hogs and Polled Hereford Cattle. He was a long time member of the Lockridge Baptist Church serving in many capacities during the years and a member of the V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife Elaine of Lockridge, one son Marlon Baese of Durham, North Carolina and one daughter Dr. Gloria Baese of Tulsa, Oklahoma. One grandson Zachary Baese of Thornton, New Hampshire and one brother Clinton Boese of Oskaloosa, Iowa. and three nieces, one nephew, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
