Maxine Allen Obituary
Maxine R. Allen 100, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Old passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant with Pastors Carl & Elaine Vass officating. The family will receive friends from noon until service time on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Middletown Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Hospital Auxiliary or to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
Maxine Ruth Carden Allen was born on August 16, 1912, at Middletown, Iowa the daughter of Charles Cornick & Abbie Sater Carden. She graduated from Danville High School and Burlington Business College. She was united in marriage to Wilbur L. Allen on March 13, 1937 at Middletown; he preceded her in death on January 14, 1992. She and her husband lived in Middletown until 1941, when they moved to Olds, Iowa.
She helped her husband on the farm and was active in the United Church of Christ, Chairman of American Cancer Society, President of the Hospital Auxiliary, and also ran the gift shop at the hospital for several years. She enjoyed quilting, crochet, craftwork and knitting.
Maxine is survived by her daughter Cheryl Wells, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son Donald, an infant son Wade and a grandson Cory.
