Peggy Jean (Burk) Sempf, 85, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Savannah Heights of Mt. Pleasant.
Peggy was born on June 30, 1938, in Fairfield, the daughter of Otto & Violet (Picket) Burk. She was of the Christian faith and had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Peggy was united in marriage to James W. McMullin in 1957. To this union Deborah and Donald were born. They later divorced. Peggy then was united in marriage to Danny L. Sempf on September 1, 1973 and was married for 43 years until his death on July 7, 2016.
She worked as a waitress at Kigers Café, and Harper Brush in Fairfield, Vega Industries, Scientific Applications and later at Buff's Truck Stop all of Mt. Pleasant. Peggy had a variety of interests, such as reading, listening to Elvis and Tom Jones, watching western movies, dancing and playing cards. She was a wonderful cook but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Peggy shared her love, hugs and kisses with her children, grandchildren and friends who she called her extended family who in return, called her Mom, Grandma and GiGi. Peggy had attended St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by her children, Deb Johnson-Baxter, of Topeka, Kansas, Donald (Theresa) McMullin, of Mt. Pleasant and her step-daughter, Toni Sempf (Dwayne Woodson) of Mt. Pleasant, six grandsons, Brandon Deck, Jeffrey (Deborah) Deck, Joe (Catherine) Welcher, Chad McMullin, Jessy (Katie) McMullin, Ryan ( Jenna) Krieger, Shon (Michelle) Baxter and Shelly Baxter, nine great grandchildren, Stacey Deck, Rachelle Deck, Catherine Deck, Ethan Deck, Joseph Welcher, Tessa Welcher, Ellaina McMullin, Averee McMullin and Lynnix McMullin, her two brothers, Rex (Connie) Burk of Anderson, Missouri, Jerry (Joyce) Burk of Burlington and her sister, Vickie (Kerry) Housh of Mt. Pleasant, along with several nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Danny, one brother, Phillip Burk.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with words of comfort by Ryan Mordick. Burial will follow the service in the Grant Cemetery rural Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. A memorial has been established in her memory.
