Phyllis A. Brown, 91 of Mt. Pleasant passed away at her home on Friday, October 21, 2011.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Burge Cemetery at New London, with Pastor David Plooster officiating. Friends may call from noon until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Memorials may be directed to Great River Hospice in her memory.
Phyllis was born on February 6, 1920, at Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of Roy & Iva Ferne Rainbow Jacobs. She was united in marriage to Melvin Ford in 1938, they later divorced and she married Chester Brown on June 11, 1955, they celebrated over 50 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on February 14, 2007. She had attended Cedar Creek Church and the Bible Study Group at Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Women of the Moose; had served as Senior Regent, member of the Stitch and Chatter Club, Salem Women's Club and the Salem Kitchen Band. Phyllis enjoyed growing hybrid Irises, gardening, cooking, playing the organ, sewing, quilting, watching the Cubs, crosswords, circle word puzzles and reading.
She is survived by her children: Sharyl Van Dorin and her husband Dave and Dennis Ford and his wife Edie all of Mt. Pleasant, step-daughter: Phyllis Kay Williams of Quartzsite, Arizona. Three grandchildren, seven step grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Special friends: John and Ingi McDowell.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, aunts and uncles.
