Raymond Swanson Obituary

Raymond C. Swanson 90, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Lockridge passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at his home in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. June 6, 2011 at the Lockridge Baptist Church in Lockridge with Rev. Earl Swigart officiating. Burial will be in the Lockridge Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Sunday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 5 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Lockridge Baptist Church, Lockridge Fire and Rescue and Gideon's.

Raymond was born on June 14, 1920, north of Lockridge the son of Charles Oliver & Anna Thomson Swanson. He graduated from Lockridge High School, and was united in marriage to Wilma L. Spray on March 24, 1942 at Memphis Missouri. He lived on the family farm near Lockridge until he was 84, and then moved to Mt. Pleasant. He was a 4H leader receiving an award in 1969 for his service, Boy Scout leader, received the Soil Conversation award in 1949. He had served on the Lockridge Cemetery Board, Lockridge Township Trustee, member of the Gideon's, and a member of the Lockridge Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for 40 yrs., and had filled in as pastor of the Rome Baptist Church for 3 yrs.

He is survived by his wife Wilma of Mt. Pleasant, and his children: Larry Swanson of New London, Gloria Messer (Larry), Robert Swanson (Penny) all of Mt. Pleasant, and Richard Swanson (Kim) of Lockridge. 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grand-daughter Lara Harding, one son-in-law Wendell Olson, one step grandson Ray Messer and two sisters: Blanche Walshon and Vera Swanson.
