Roman “Joe” Tanner, 62, of New London passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.
Joe was born on February 12, 1962, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Roman and Lois (Rogers) Tanner. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, boating, NASCAR, listening to music and spending time with his family and friends. Joe was united in marriage to Juanita Villarreal on May 12, 1990, in Tipton. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2022. Joe was a technician at Whaley Auto Works of Mt. Pleasant.
He is survived by his daughters, Janie (Tony) Mendez of Ft. Madison and Norma Lewis of Johnston, his grandchildren, Tone, Diego, Juan and Lexi, his brother, Earl Tanner of Granite City, Illinois, his sisters, Sharon (Mark) Hightower of West Branch, Rhonda (Don) Marchik of Stanwood and Pam Johnson of California, along with several nieces, nephews and host of friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Juanita, one brother, Kenneth and one sister, Helena.
Joe’s family will host a celebration of his life on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at noon at the Evergreen Hill Cemetery, rural Tipton. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.
