Ruby Brockway Obituary
Ruby Brockway 85 of Ottumwa and former area resident passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center in Ottumwa.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Matthew Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in her memory.
Ruby was born on December 1, 1923, at Agency, Iowa the daughter of Edward & Anna Brodthage Rudat. She grew up around Mt. Pleasant, and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1941. She attended the College of Commerce in Burlington and the worked as a payroll clerk of Silas Mason. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Brockway on April 21, 1946. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, Lutheran Women's League, DAV and VFW auxiliaries, and had been a Cub Scout Den Mother for seven years. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, cooking, crafts and reading.
She is survived by her children: Charles Brockway of Madison Height, VA and Kriss Smith of Cedar Rapids. 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One sister Lucy Ford of Mt. Pleasant and one brother Fred Rudat of Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Donald Rudat, and two sisters Elsie Tackenberg and Susie Willis.
