Russell Rich Obituary

Russell E. Rich 83 of Wayland and formerly of Lockridge passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Henry County Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Wayland First Responders or to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Russell was born on May 30, 1927, in Henry County the son of Velma Rich Messer; he was raised by his grandparents David & Naomi Rich. He attended Douglas School at Merrimac, and was united in marriage to Ina Crile on November 8, 1950, at Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant. Russell worked for Nebel Trucking of Wayland, Peterson Implement, Supply Coop, Biggs Feed and Grain and Messer Feed all of Mt. Pleasant. He owned a poultry business and farmed in the Lockridge community until his retirement in 1999, when he moved to Wayland.

He is survived by his wife: Ina of Wayland, and his children: Maxine Borglum (Jim) of Waverly, Beverly Ray of Granger, Michael Rich (Cheryl), Gary Rich all of Mt. Pleasant and Keith Rich (Trudy) of Lockridge. 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Three sisters: Norma Meyer (Jim), Ruth Messer and Liz Rugg (Fred) all of Wayland, two brothers: Roger Messer (Vern) of Williford, Arkansas and David Messer (Jackie) of Knoxville, TN. One sister-in-law Mildred Rich of Wayland.

Russell was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents and one brother Robert Rich.
